Bio

Joerg Dressler (Germany, b. 1964) is a painter known for his exploration of impermanence, memory, and the fragile beauty of the natural world. His work juxtaposes meticulously rendered fragments of nature—recalling 19th-century landscape and still life painting—with contemporary geometric abstraction.

By interrupting illusionistic space with exposed, patterned layers, Dressler creates compositions that feel both stable and fragile. These layered surfaces evoke the transience of nature while alluding to underlying physical laws, ultimately challenging the viewer’s perception of depth, form, and reality.

Dressler earned his MFA in Visual Communication from the Hochschule für Gestaltung in Offenbach, Germany. He also studied at the École Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs in Paris, France. He is a recipient of the Romanos Rizk Scholarship, the AFCC 2024 Capacity-Building Grant, and was named a finalist in the 2020 Mass Cultural Council Artist Fellowships Program in Painting. His residencies include Twenty Summers, Provincetown Community Compact, and Peek-a-Boo Studios. His work has been featured in publications such as The Boston Globe, Provincetown Arts, Artsinsquare, and The Jealous Curator.

Dressler’s work is included in the permanent collections of the Provincetown Art Association and Museum; the Leslie-Lohman Museum of Art; and the Castellani Art Museum of Niagara University.
